Hoshicon 2016 – page 5
Sometimes it feels like Opening Ceremonies are a bit of a dying art, as a big, fancy event at least. But even if your con doesn’t go for a huge, elaborate kickoff, you can always make up for it with ENTHUSIASM!
…also, I preferred Manga: The Printed Version since it didn’t have so many filler arcs.
(Historical Notes: Okay, so here’s a time where I dance around the stuff I heard about Hoshicon’s collapse without specifically mentioning it. After spending so much time going to Big Conventions™ and hearing people pine for The Goode Olde Days, it was nice to go back to what really did feel like just a big nerd party. Moments like these really made Hoshicon feel like anime night at your friends’ house cranked up by a thousand, which was refreshing… but then I heard the stories I heard and realized there IS something to be said for actually running your convention like a business and taking things seriously and just knowing how to behave like a responsible adult where money is involved. Maybe put an astrix next to those rose-tinted memories is all I’m saying.)
