I mean, I don’t really know how the badge could have NOT still been in the backpack after I put it in there the night before, but the point was I wasn’t SURE of it before I left, and that’s a scary thing to realize when you’ve been on the road for about an hour already.  I mean, it’s not like I’ve never turned back to recover a badge before, but it’s USUALLY not mine, and I’ve got a reputation to uphold… a reputation of loosing OTHER things.

So… this comic did NOT turn out the way it looked in my head.  I had no faith in my ability to actually reproduce the sheer sketchiness of this random motel by drawing it by hand, so the whole plan was to build the page around photos I took while in the parking lot… except those pictures didn’t properly capture the sketchiness EITHER, and I was in too much of a hurry to get back on the road to really notice until it was too late.  Seriously, you should have seen the tiny, dirty, depressing pool weirdly wedged in between the parking lot and the street.  There is NO way it hasn’t had multiple bodies fished out of it… and at least one car drunkenly driven right into it.  Unfortunately, to get a clear enough picture, I guess I would have actually had to get OUT of the car and walk right up to the pool… and that was not going to happen.  I wound up having to Photoshop in some more extravagant crappiness to make up for all the authentic details that disappeared as the pictures were scaled down to fit the page.
