One of my great, misanthropic  joys in life is turning tumblr logic back on itself.

But seriously, much like the last time I was at this con, the best part wasn’t the con itself but the film festival at the adjacent Carolina Theatre, to which congoers got free passes.  I probably spent more time in theater seats than I did out on the con floor, and DEFINITELY saw more movies on the big screen that weekend than I had the whole rest of the year put together.  The Rocketeer in particular was a revelation, and not just because of the small miracle that was getting permission to show Disney movies in the first place.  I saw this movie a lot as a kid, and already knew it was underrated, but I’ve gained a whole new appreciation for just how EFFICIENT it is.  In our current age of bloated, over-stuffed, needlessly-complicated uber-blockbusters, I have a newfound respect for just what a tight, lean, well-functioning machine The Rocketeer’s script is.  Nothing drags on too long, the tone is consistent throughout, sub-plots are kept to a bare minimum, and there’s no attempts to tie into any larger cinematic universe.  Supposedly, this was the first time The Rocketeer had even been shown on a big screen since the early 90’s, and if so, I’m really glad to have been there to see it.

And, as I said, this was FAR from my only movie-going experience over the weekend.  It wasn’t even my only one that night…

(PS: I must retract what I said about the previous comic being my last on the old computer.  As is always the case, the upgrade process is taking longer than expected, so at least ONE more page got done on the old rig)
