I’ve mentioned elsewhere that I want to use ConCONcon as a venue for unloading material in a “serial numbers filed off” manner, changing the details until they don’t correspond with any real life events or individuals anymore. That felt especially important here, because this “guy” is a hybrid of quite a few real people, none of whom I’m mean-spirited enough to actively, specifically make fun of. The important thing is, all these folks collectively are among the reasons I wound up dialing back my involvement in the Convention Scene. Too many people for whom the cons they were involved in was pretty much the only thing they had going for them, and who were reeeaaally trying to convince themselves that this was totally okay. The more of these folks I saw, the more I didn’t like the thought of winding up that way.
The author comments in this section give rise to both sarcastic remarks, and supportive gestures in equal strength, in me. So I shall give both, with this being a disclaimer/warning:
Sarcastic Remark: Don’t worry Blitz, you also have your work on Far Out There as a second thing you have going for you to prevent your worries.
Supporting Statement: Honestly looking to ensure that an individual has multiple sources of emotional wellbeing and support is important for everyone. It’s good to know that you are properly looking after yourself by actively building this in your life (when possible), though the driving force behind that act of what could be considered an attempt at self care being dread of a potential future you can see other’s living is worrisome in and of itself.
