Conventional Wisdom

It’s interesting that I enjoy MAGFest’s “Opening Ceremonies” (quotations because they didn’t even call it that this year) as much as I do. Usually, I prefer an actual EVENT (like the ever more elaborate stage shows Anime USA kicks off with every year) to just some people talking (no gonna mention any names there). But I think that’s ‘cos the “just people talkin” Opening Ceremonies still WANT to be an event, they just kinda fail at it. MAGFEst doesn’t even pretend that it’s giving anything other than an hour or two of sleep-deprived staffers rambling about nonsense, and that honesty is kind of refreshing. Better yet, it provides a LOT of potential comic material.
