Ichibancon 2020 – page 9
Well, of COURSE there had to be a page about this. Mandatory outdoors playtime, everybody!
And, of course, the secondary joke is that virtually every time a fire alarm goes off at a con, it’s not actually because the hotel is going up Towering Inferno style. The worst I’ve ever encountered was somebody doing some welding or some other trivial thing causing a whiff of smoke at JUST the wrong place. Otherwise, every fire alarm evacuation I’ve ever encountered at a con was either a technical glitch or some kid pulling a prank. Everything I heard indicated that this was the later… and yes, I have been in multiple evacuations over the years. Anyway, credit where credit is due, the Concord Fire Department were on hand IMPRESSIVELY quick, and barely had to do anything other than turn the alarm off.
Also, in a moment of pristine irony, all the weather reports I’d seen warned it’d rain on Saturday, so I actually spent this whole fire scare afraid I was about to get drenched.
@ Hover-Over-Text: You mean that someone’s actually WATCHING the points the security cameras cover? In real time? And can be reasonably assumed to be able to comprehend everything going on? That’s amazing. So long as actual Camera’s with a connection to a reasonable computer are put next to the disembodied eyeballs for playback purposes, and the controller of the disembodied eyeballs have the ability to contact people about problems, it would be the best security system there is!
