Useful tip for you aspiring panelists: if your idea for a panel involves video clips, have them all saved and ready to play on your own setup. Don’t assume the con will have wifi, and even if you know it does, don’t assume it’ll actually WORK. I know, not everybody has top of the line video stealing program things, or suitably giant flash drives on hand to store everything. I sure don’t, but that’s why I’m only ever the sidekick on these things.
(Historical Notes: …and you KNOW your panel is in bad shape when even I’M calling out your technical difficulties. I’m the guy who had a laptop overheat and DIE in the middle of a panel, and even I’M calling this bush league.)
Only at Ichibancon have I seen people hosting panels be brazen enough to run them off of youtube and the wifi! Like I get it, the hotel has it available and all, (and I’ve ran plenty of panels haphazardly myself) but this was maddening to see!
Well, you also have to remember that, since this is Ichibancon, half those panelists are also twelve year olds who’ve never even been to a con before.
