ConCONcon 2020 – page 20
I finally got around to seeing Godzilla: King of the Monsters (the one from last year, not the original) a few weeks ago. Inexplicably, I find myself dwelling on the experience of being stuck at a soul-crushingly bad film and not being able to comprehend the people actually enjoying themselves. Totally not sure how that train of thought wound up going where it did, no sirree.
Anyway, YAY! A new page that didn’t take several weeks to get online! …but it’s another one that’s entirely about imaginary characters and not me. Gosh, I really HAVE been avoiding drawing cartoon me a lot lately…
Well, you likely couldn’t just imagine up some friends for this page without it being too personal or specific to a certain event, and it wouldn’t make sense without any (also, we don’t see your friends often enough to count them as consistent characters, so it still wouldn’t make sense). I am a little upset that you didn’t use the Teenagers (aka, Those Other Kids) for this, as it would keep the intangible innocence & purity of these kids (aka, Those Kids) for longer, but this is a more consistent character setting.
Also, between “Digimon”, “Homestuck Troll” & “Dr Who”, Dr Who is the one who doesn’t like ‘Dreamer Guard: Source Protector StreamGuard”, and despises the movie, but is willing to sit through it due to friendship & horror paralasis. This actually makes sense, despite how sarcastic that sounds in my head.
I though about using Those Other Kids, but they’ve already had two whole pages to themselves so far. Gotta give everybody’s favorites more screentime, right?
Also, I actually started to include a snarky bit about how of COURSE a Dr. Who fan could complain about something while still feeling obligated to sit through ti anyway… but thought it’s sound too mean-spirited. 😀
My thought process was based on the products. “Digimon = Originally Aimed solely at Children”, “Homestuck Troll = Goofy Weirdness Ahoy!”, & “Dr Who = Aimed at Mature, but acceptable for children”. As such, if Dreamer Guard’s target appeal was Childish Crazy ‘Fun’ Times, it make sense for the one who cosplay’s the most mature product to be the one who dislikes the material.
And, no, I’m not criticizing or praising anyone who enjoys the medium and doesn’t fit the narrow description I gave (especially since I know of Blitz’s love of Digimon), just using it as a starting point for my explanation.
Oh, don’t worry about it… because that’s not Digimon, that’s Kyubey from Madoka Magica 🙂
(I know, it does look like a Terriermon hat, doesn’t it?)
Yeah, it does, and it’s been a while since I’ve seen Terriermon.
…Honestly, the one that popped into my mind was Patamon, but it is further from the same appearance, and it’s been about as long, if not longer, than when I last paid any real attention to Patamon. And it does look closer to Terriermon.
And that loses much of the basis for my argument, partially because I haven’t watched Madoka Magica (I generally don’t like dark stories) and thus don’t know how to redirect it to fit the change. Though I know most of the major things due to peripheral information.
Oh well.
I’ve actually drawn that hat with Terriermon’s ears a few times, so I totally get confusing it all.
Also, just for the record, the only significance regarding the hat is that, at the time of Those Kids’ first appearance, it was a popular item at the dealer’s room. Come to think of it, it’d actually be funny if, one day, we found out the kid had never watched more than the first few episodes because of how depressing it got.
Also also, it turns out I had the reply limit set really low. I had to go into the options and crank ’em up to even write this.
Hey, our conversation became troubleshooting! That’s neat.
I did know that about Those Kids, their appearance was based purely on what you saw before their first appearance. I remember it from the one time you tried to update their appearance, before deciding “Nah, they’ve had those same costumes for years. They’d prefer them, so let them keep them, Cosplay’s supposed to be about the fun, after all”.
Yeah, I mean, they’re drawn by a guy who’s regularly cosplayed the same character for nearly two decades now 🙂
