ConCONcon 2020 – page 2
Um… yeah. Last week’s page sort of wrote itself once conventions started calling things off, but that wasn’t the first comic idea I’d had. I’ve been gathering up ConCONcon ideas al year, and looking back over the list I’d compiled, I realized most of them weren’t anywhere NEAR as warm and fuzzy escapism as the into implies. Heck, half the reason I STARTED doing ConCONcon as a regular feature was so I could be salty about the general trends of convention culture I don’t like without it being “about” any specific, real people. So just know that, while Conventional Wisdom is committed to bringing you the con experience in these con-free times, it’ll be the WHOLE experience. Warts and all.
I hate to be “that fan” but I read where the smaller conventions may not survive this shutdown, since they live on the raggedy edge of profitability in the best of times. Some dealers may not make it back, either, if they rely on dealers rooms. We’ll have to see if the big cons can hang in there, Otakon says they’re still on for July.
It’s definitely going to be an experience seeing how things turn out on the other side of it all, that’s for sure.
Aw, you aren’t forcing people to clean (their imaginations) to prevent the spread of Covid 19 even through ConconCON. My suggested joke was not used. 🙁 (narcissistic sad face due to me only caring about myself in this comment)
I thought about doing something like that, but we’ve already had two pages in a row on this subject, and I was kind of itching to move on to some material that’s a bit less “explicitly about one single, specific moment in time.” Another one of the goals I have for ConCONcon pages in particular is to try and make them a bit more universal.
Oh, I completely understand. I wasn’t seriously complaining, just mocking myself.
Don’t worry, I wasn’t taking it personally or anything 🙂
I’ve just seen so much Ripped From The Headlines content the past few weeks that part of me has really been wanting to remind the world “You know, people are still gonna need to be able to enjoy this stuff AFTER all the dust settles, too.”
