NC Comicon 2019 – page 8
TO ANYONE HERE LOOKING FOR ICHIBANCON 2020 COMICS:
They’re coming, I promise! Due to crazy complications I’ve gone on about in SEVERAL other places, finishing up the NC Comicon update before Ichi just wasn’t possible. But I AM going to do a full series on Ichibancon 2020 just as soon as the rest of these are finished up! Fear not! Just stay tuned and bear with me during all these complications.
Speaking of complications, I’m pleased to say that this is OFFICIALLY the first comic I’ve done on the new computer! The rig is far from complete, I’ve still got to port over about as much material between computers as I do between websites, AND I’m still getting used to all these new program interfaces, but we now have positive proof that I CAN eventually get stuff done! We’re not QUITE doomed yet!
Speaking of the new comic, let’s… speak of the new comic! This was weird to do on two levels. For one thing, it’s weird to draw the Dr. F glasses how they “really” look, since I normally just draw the giant cokebottle glasses for my caricature (sticking the same glasses over every costume helps make it clear that this is still the same character). For another, I kiiiiiiind of fudged reality a bit to make the joke work. Oh, make no mistake, I totally wasted valuable time scrambling to find a pair of glasses that were right under my nose, but it wasn’t QUITE this bad. The glasses were actually sitting in my con backpack, exactly where I left them after the last time I did this costume. The thing is, I’d been packing stuff into that backpack for over a day, so I STILL had no excuse to have not noticed them for so long. I really am going to be a senile old man by 40.
It looks like a large two piece costume that has a singular real issue once made, how hot it gets inside that thing (and possibly picking things up, unless there’s the likely situation of having arm holes). Your costume, however, has at least 6 pieces (Hair, Glasses, Shirt, Tie, Coat, Robot), and they all need to go together to work.
Oh yeah, when you actually stop and think about it, it makes perfect sense. But the initial emotional reaction is still “WHOA BIG = COMPLICATED” so seeing these people go from standing around in street clothes to full suited up and cosplaying in literally less time than it took me to write this was still REALLY surprising.
