Conventional Wisdom

(Historical Notes: Okay, first of all, my wallet wasn’t stolen or anything, I’d just left it in the hotel room when I last made the trek back to change.  Second, I was actually able to follow some other folks into the hotel after just a couple of minutes, so I wasn’t actually in danger of freezing or anything.  Once I WAS in the lobby, though, I hit several snags.  All my roommates I actually had numbers for were either back at the con or just weren’t answering their phones, so I couldn’t get anybody to come down to the lobby to bring me up.  Remember, pretty much all hotels require a keycard to select any floors on the elevator, so I’d have to ride up with somebody else who DID have their card… except every time anybody decided to ride up, the did so with a dozen other folks already tagging along behind them.  It took close to an hour before I finally managed to sneak my way up to my room and get somebody to let me in.  Never a dull moment.)
