ConCONcon 2020 – page 23
I will never run out of ways to say that congoers are unstable, destructive lunatics because, after well over a decade, they never ran out of ways to prove it to me.
And that’s AFTER making a deliberate choice not to point how how stupid the whole “paying hundreds of dollars to go somewhere dressed like a cartoon character” thing really is. Even after being granted that SIGNIFICANT handicap, congoers still have a long, illustrious history of living down to everyone’s expectations.
From reading comics like this one, I suspect that part of the issue with Congoer’s over the age of 18 is that many of them end up going through an entire weekend+ on less than minimal sleep (or, likely, less than minimal), and booze. Basically, if you’d expect to have an issue with a drunken costume party that lasts 3-4 days, you can expect something similar to be possible at a Con.
Here’s the thing though: over half the people who cause all the problems are actually UNDER the age of 18… or at least close enough to 21 that they really shouldn’t be as drunk as they are.
In general, though, the mantra for conventions of just about any sort has always been “This is a safe place where you can be as weird as you wanna be!” …and that’s where everything goes wrong, right there. Folks think they can just cut loose from inhibitions and not suffer any consequences, only to regret it afterwards.
