Anime USA 2010 – page 8
I exaggerate SLIGHTLY for humor’s sake, but you’ve come to expect this, right? I help run Awesomely Bad at AUSA this year, and my illustrious co-host decided to do it in character as Tommy Wiseau. This involved wandering in late and giving a rousing “Oh, hi panel!” But THAT required the audience not coming in until we are all set up, which further necessitation our keeping the doors shut. Harder than you might think, especially once go time approached. But hey, I’m not going to complain about us having a full room and then some! 😀
EDIT: I don’t know HOW I forgot to mention this, but there’s press coverage of this panel!
(Historical Notes: I’m almost positive that link no longer works. Whoever said “The Internet never forgets” was an idiot and a liar.)
Boy some of my last minute spur of the moment ideas really worked great. I feel like this is such a time capsule moment of the times then, but honestly something tells me 10 years later, I could probably redo this exact bit now and it would still go over well; but I think I’m happy to have cleansed myself of The Room these days.
I think after this, there was a few years before I started attempting any elaborate intros to Awesomely Bad that have kind of become a thing in the last few years, and well hopefully next year we can make it happen again.
I’ve said it before, but in an age where everything exists online if you’re willing to look hard enough, wacky presentation and immersive stunts are really important for making panels worth attending. (At least, that’s what I think)
