Otakon 2011 – page 14
The really sad thing is, I’d already seen MasakoX at the voice actors panel (he was one of the people they pulled out of the audience to help read an old Flash Gordon script) and I knew I recognized him from someplace, but I still had to have it pointed out to me after it was too late. This sort of thing happens a lot when you have as loose a grasp on the world around you as I do.
And really, this was happening to me all the time anyway. I had a TERRIBLE time meeting up with people this year. Folks I usually spend the bulk of a con with only got spotted for a few fleeting seconds, and people I usually meet up with every Otakon went entirely unseen. I can blame PART of this on my phone, but really the main problem was what you see here: I’m just that oblivious.
(Historical Notes: Do other conventions have a panelist lounge like Otakon’s? I’m sure they must, but for some reason Otakon’s is the only one I have any memory of actually hanging out in. Maybe other cons just aren’t physically exhausting enough for me to need a cool-down spot like this?)
If I had to be up early on Sunday morning to host a panel, at least I got some free food and getting to share some of my personal brand of nonsense with someone much more popular on the internet than I will ever be.
Out of all the cons I’ve done panels at, it’s definitely a rarity I’ve only experienced at Otakon and I’m glad for it every year.
Also, that was some REALLY good juice 😛
