Otakon 2011 – page 17
It seemed worse than it actually was.
See, I got so little of these drawn during the con itself that I decided I couldn’t wait until Monday to catch the direct train back to DC. Instead, I went for the more elaborate route depicted above… and wound up in a barren parking lot. Turns out I got off the Light Rail one stop early and ended up in the “BWI Business District” which is a fancy name for “the parking lot behind the other parking lot.” Fortunately, I ended up catching the bus I needed from there, but still, it was a very disconcerting wait.
And let this be a lesson to you, kids: NEVER TAKE THE TRAIN TO A CON.
(Historical Notes: This might not be entirely clear to some readers… because it obviously wasn’t clear to me at the time. That train I was riding back in the first few comics only ran weekdays, so although I could ride it out to Otakon, back wasn’t an option. The bigger problem here is that Baltimore isn’t on the fancy-schmancy DC Metro system, the closest they have is their own Light Rail system, which had a stop at the airport, which in turn had a shuttle bus that ran between the airport and the nearest Metro stop. The problem was, since I’d never taken the Light Rail before, I didn’t realize there was more than one stop connected to the airport: one right up by the thing for passengers, and one off in the back for employees. As you can see, I got off at the wrong one. Thankfully, that shuttle bus happened to swing by both stops, so I didn’t quite have to wait all the way until the next train. The REAL important thing is that this proves it’s not just grumpy old modern day me putting a negative spin on everything DC-related. See? Past me agrees!)
