Conventional Wisdom

This is kind of an in-joke for me and my friends. See, along with these cartoons, I keep a detailed journal of my con experiences that gets posted on Facebook (I’d link to it, but I’m afraid I draw much faster than I write, so the journal won’t be ready for a LEAST a few more weeks) Thus, it’s not uncommon for me to randomly stop whatever I’m doing and jot a few lines down in a notepad, just like that.

I know, it’s really not that funny. Like I said, just an in-joke.

(Historical Note: A decade on, this hasn’t changed.  I stopped writing up full journals not long after this comic started to take off, but I’ve never stopped with the notes.  They’re just for the comics exclusively now.  In fact, at this point, it honestly feels weird for me to go on a trip or some fun activity and NOT be taking random notes as I go.  It’s just that deeply ingrained in my “actually going outside for once” routine.  You know what HAS changed, though?  MY WILLINGNESS TO LOOK AT A CRUDE DOODLE LIKE THIS AND CONSIDER IT ACCEPTABLE TO SHOW OTHER PEOPLE.  Somehow these Katsucon comic are even SLOPPIER than the first Otakon ones, it’s pathetic.  And you know what’s sad?  This right here is THE IMPROVED VERSION!  I actually went on a fit of re-editing this page before finally accepting that nothing short of a complete re-draw would truly salvage the thing.  Any time I’m feeling down and out over how much longer the current updates take, I need to look back at these early pages and remind myself WHY they took so little time to do.)
