Conventional Wisdom

(Historical Notes: Okay, this one is kind of another “Past Me pretending things aren’t changing” comic, though that’s not to say that the happy reunion depicted here didn’t happen.  It’s just the general narrative presented here that’s a bit disingenuous.  Suggest that I’m SAYING I only come to these things for work, but then I go and spend the weekend hanging out with friends because being with friends is what the con is REALLY all about and then Linus recites Luke 2 to Charlie Brown and it’s all happy ever after.  That’s certainly what I thought back when I first started Conventional Wisdom, and I really REALLY tried to convince myself of it in the way I constructed this page.  By giving equal time to me wandering around and the happy hug time, it suggests a narrative of the two taking place in an equal ratio to each other.  If I wanted to actually be honest, though, this page would be one panel of me saying “Hi” to somebody, then a dozen panels of me making notes about how great it is to see old friends… without ever looking up or talking to anybody else.  THAT is the true convention experience, at least for me.  Look, most of my old con pals either don’t wanna hang out anymore or just don’t go to cons period.  I can’t hang out with a friend group that doesn’t exist anymore.)
