Katsucon 2009 – page 16
If you’ve never driven out to DC… don’t.
This easily the most elaborate page I’ve done for Conventional Wisdom yet. It didn’t MEAN for it to be, but trying to convey sunset using nothing but Sharpie turned out kind of… sucky.
Well, that was Katsucon ’09 for yours truly. Tune in Memorial Day weekend for the Conventional Wisdom debut of my “home” convention: ANIMAZEMENT!!!
(Historical Note: Oh man, I’m still pleased with how this turned out. For a comic that’s still so sketchy and sloppy, the atmospherics came off VERY well, especially in the middle panel. That’s honestly one of the few times I’ve EVER manage to get screentones to work exactly how I intended. Also, if you’ve never been in the area, know this is NOT an exaggeration. My brother moved up to DC a while after I’d left, and he recently told me that someone actually did a study on the amount of money companies lose due to all this traffic making people late to work. It’s a lot. Like, the Northern Virgina stretch of I-95 could be considered the most expensive stretch of road in the country due to how much the loss of productivity costs everybody. I wouldn’t doubt it.)
Every now and then I remember the drawing of me in the last panel with my angry face behind the wheel and always chuckle about it.
