So, previous Katsucons have been kinda sorta problematic, so my going this year was in question to begin with. I mean, when stuff goes down, it makes for good comic material… but it still means spending a weekend in the middle of it. Of course, when it became clear that it was going to be BACK TO BACK with MAGFest, that settled it right away. Doing two cons without any breathing room between them is not a thing I can do anymore.

And yet, I do still feel kinda bad that I missed out on all this alleged comedy gold. I DO know that I distinctly smelled a lot of fresh paint when we got to the Gaylord, so they must have cleaned up a LOT.

(Historical Notes: Past Me is in pretty strong denial over what’s going on here, both in my reasons for dropping Katsucon and my reactions to the reports I heard afterwards.  Not that I DIDN’T want to avoid the back-to-back time crunch, that’s totally true… but it’s also more of a final push in the direction I was already going.  As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, most of my convention traveling buddies had already sworn off Katsu themselves due to the various bad experiences, meaning that if I DID go, I’d have to work out a whole new set of connections and room arrangements.  I did NOT want to go through all that trouble for the “pleasure” of going to Katsucon again, and that’s BEFORE I heard the horror stories about what actually went down that year.  Past Me is making a show of being conflicted over missing out on the comic material, but I can tell you right now that I was VERY relieved to have dodged that bullet.  And I’ll also tell you that I was already starting to feel that way about cons in general, even if I tried really dang hard to downplay it.)
