Okay, I’m not gonna lie, originally this was going to be a Patreon comic for Wake Forest Mini Comic Con, specifically a sequel to this page.  Seriously, I dove into box after box of old comics deliberately looking for kitschy stuff I could post jokes about… only to wind up too genuinely intrigued by the truly weird stuff to ever make fun of them.  Seriously, if I’d had the cash on me, I’d have walked out of that building with a whole box full of late 70s/early 80s scifi comics.  I hear so much about the superhero stuff from that era, but the cosmic stuff is still a big blindspot for me that I’d really like to know more about.

But the thing is, I realized that’s kind of how it is for me ALL the time these days.  I think just about every time I’ve bought stuff on a con trip over the past year, at least one of the purchases was on a “Oh, I can do something funny with this later” basis… and then I never did the thing because I was too busy just watching/reading it.  Of course, those who know me will point out that me “just watching” something still involves a whole lot of making fun of that thing, but it’d different, ya know?  There’s a fundamental difference between an in-depth live riffing of an anime and tweeting out a sarcastic quip about the cover.  If nothing else, that’s the kind of thing that winds up on Patreon, not social media.

…unless it’s me buying something Monkees related.  That gets turned into a comic RIGHT away.
