If sure you’ll be able to find all sorts of stories about crazy things going on in front of the convention. For whatever reason, attendance was WAAAAAAY up this year, and more people results in more weirdness. But you know what? I could care less. I came to AZ to do anime stuff, not watch Greepeace people try to recruit furries (no, really)
And, because I didn’t have time to do a full page on the subject, let me just say it here: ANIMAZEMENT GAME ROOMS ARE ALWAYS AWESOME. They had four, COUNT ‘EM, FOUR separate rooms set up this year. It took all the self-discipline I have to actually go back to the con and do CON stuff.
(Historical Notes: It feels like big, downtown conventions in general developed a real problem with this over the past decade. Just saying, I don’t recall any obnoxious outsiders with signs or clipboards hanging around any of the conventions I’ve been to at some little hotel out by the airport or whatever.)
