Otakon 2025 – page 2
Okay, context time. It has been a very… disruptive summer for me, up to and including my Grandmother passing away. This isn’t me fishing for sympathy or anything, but it IS me explaining something. In terms of scrambling to get things done before strict deadlines and traveling several states away for stuff and generally having my whole work flow in a constant state of “not normal,” I basically went into Otakon in the same condition as if I’d squeezed a whole extra convention trip in after Animazement. There’s a reason I don’t try to do conventions that close to each other anymore. The older I get, the more time I need to reset between con trips, and that absolutely did NOT happen here, so I showed up for Otakon WRECKED.
And I do need to stress this, I am NOT complaining here. If anything, I’m really thankful that I had an external excuse to keep me from trying to do as much as I would normally do at a convention like Otakon. If I’d felt compelled to do multiple panels and meet-ups and events and spent all weekend running around cram everything in, I’d have been utterly burned out by Sunday evening. Serious, go binge the older Otakon comics, I’ve been known to do WAY too much running around at cons, especially where Otakon is concerned. As it stands, yeah, I was super tired by the end, but I wasn’t ruined or anything. I actually think I had the maximum amount of fun I would have been capable of having all weekend, and it’s not like I didn’t get more than enough material for a full update. If anything, it’ll probably be a lot more fun for you to read, because I’ll be a lot less crank while drawing it all.
Anyway, tune in next year when I spend a whole weekend sitting in a hotel room looking out the window.
